We were in Umbria this last November. Spello, was the beautiful hill town in which we based ourselves for a week of touring and eating. Spoleto, Assisi, Bevagna, and Montalpucino were a few of the towns that we visited as we ate and drank fabulous wine (Well, only one got to drink the other was the designated driver.)

Driving was made easier with "Tim" our GPS, which I highly recommend. We aren't exactly spring chickens, but found driving necessary in order to see this beautiful area. Then we drove all the way, to Lake Como. Now that was an adventure, driving around the lake to Bellagio.

Thank you, baysidegirl. I'm glad I brought back memories for you from Lake Como. Such a beautiful place. My most recent trip was to Amsterdam and Paris. That link is http://www.travelswithdiane.homestea...7Holland1.html
Happy reading.

I guess that's two votes now for the Villa Scacciapensieri in Siena. It's easy to stay there for a day or two taking the bus into Siena before renting a car. Of course, staying inside the city center would be great, too.

There's a quaint little town I've been to in Marche--just east of Umbria called San Benedetto del Tronto. Don't go there in winter, but its a great summer place. It should picking in May and prices should be a lot better than in the middle of summer. Its a beach town that also has a very cool 'city' side to it as well. I found a link with some photos on it for you:
