Tuscany to Zurich

I will travel from the Tuscany region to Zurich this June. Based in Siena but can access other major cities/hubs. What's the fastest way to Zurich? Can always do train, but was hoping for a flight on one of the cheap Euro airlines.

Easiest way to find the answer to your question is to go to the Zurich airport website and look at the flight schedules. It is possible they add more flights in June however, so others here might know or ask on the Flyer Talk website forum. But Rome, Bologna, Pisa, Florence airport, even Milan -- are not that far away by train (or a bus to Pisa airport) from Siena.

Take a train Siena-Florence-Milan-Zurich city centre to city centre, from around €46 in total.

Just book it at www.trenitalia.com

Florence-Milan takes only 1h40 at up to 186mph

Milan-Zurich takes 4h05 through the amazingly scenic Gotthard route across the Alps, fabulous.

This is not just transportation, but an experience in itself you should be excited about.

There is absolutely no need to fly such a short distance, it'd be a waste of the opportunity to see Europe!

Yes to all Man in Seat 61 posts above and for excellent info on European trains check his commercial site - www.seat61.com and also these neat sites: www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Yes the Gotthard route is very scenic - for the moment - in near future with new Gotthard base tunnel most of the nice scenes will be tunneled under so for now it is a scenic route.

Yup flying you see little of Europe or the Swiss Alps (except from thousands of feet up if clear) - take the train and see the lay of the European land in between - flying you see airports and tarmacs and little else- now for those who have been over that land route then flying may make sense.

Thanks neckervd. Yes. Fast. Was looking at the Swiss Air flights but thought may be the wisdom of this forum would have some little ways I haven't thought of...

Thanks 61 and Palen. We have actually taken the train route a couple few times in earlier trips. This time we need to leave Siena, drop off the car in Florence and be in Uzwil early afternoon.Timing just wouldn't work here.
