Tuscany, Sorrento, Sicily accommodation recommendation
 

Any recommendation for hotel/ B&B in Pienza, Montelpulcinao, Orvieto,
Sorrento, Palermo, Taormina and Siracusa?

My budget is EUR 80 to 100 for a double room per night.

Just back from Italy and stayed at Hotel Valentino in Orvieto. Very nice 3star. I think the rate was 83E but I'm not positive. They also have limited parking facilities (garages) for 12E additional per day. The street parking nearby is limited.

In Sorrento we stayed at Hotel Nice, near the train station, on Corso Italia (main street).

It was about 3 short blocks from Piazza Tasso (main square). The rate was 90E. Quiet room in back. The breakfast was crummy but there's a wonderful pastry shop 1 block toward Piazza Tasso and lots of bars for cappucino. Bar del Carmine has very large cappucinos. It's next to the church, just before Piazza Tasso on the right side if you're facing the square.

Hotel Gutkowski is full. Any other advice for Siracuse?

For Sorrento, did any one stay at il Nido? Any comment? My worry is that it is quite far from down town.

For Orvieto, any one stayed at Hotel Duomo? Any other suggestion?

in taormina we are staying at Viila Costanza- they have several 'apartments' in and around Taormina. We are in the cheapest, Enrico, which is from 55-70E a night depending on the season. Their most expensive place is 105E. they all look nice and are really like an apartment or suite. if you are staying more than 1 night it might be nice to have a kitchen.

It is not far from Ortigia and is reasonably priced. We ended up booking something on Ortigia instead.
In Taormina we have booked

which is in your price bracket and is quite central.
We also stayed at Hotel Valentino in Orvieto and thought it was fine, not a lot of character but OK. It had a fridge in the room which was unusual for budget hotels in Italy.
For Sorrento try Palazzo Starace, central, very clean, budget priced.

I've never stayed at Hotel Duomo in Orvieto but there have been a few posts in the last few days .
One concerned excessive bell ringing at the church which kept them awake and the other getting charged in dollars rather than Euro. You can probably find them with a search.

I decide to narrow my choice to Frattoria Titignano and Locanda Rosati for Orvieto. Any comment?

For one night in Naples, any suggestion for a conveniently located B&B/ hotel?

As far as I can recall, Titignano is quite far away from Orvieto.

I've never stayed anywhere other than the Hotel Gutkowski in Siracusa.

I stayed at the Hotel Duomo in Orvieto. It was as central as you can get. Just a few steps away from the Duomo. The whole place is remodeled, new and clean. They serve a good breakfast, there is internet wired into each room but you must have your own laptop and cable. I don't remember excessive bell ringing but I love church bells.

Ai Cartari is full and they referred me to consider B&B Palazzo Amari Bajardo for EUR 110 per night. Any other suggestion for Palermo?

Hotel Letizia is your best choice in Palermo.

Try Hotel Del Mare in Sorrento.

For Siracuse, I initially want to lookt at il lemonto, as recommended by Bobthenatvigator. But it seems there are very conflicting comment on the food quality on tripadvisors recently. Any comment for Siracuse?

Unless you are traveling by car, Il Limoneto is not a great idea for Siracusa, no matter what the reviews say about the food; I think it's about 6 km from the city centre. I'm sure there are busses, but do you want to spend your time standing at the edge of the road waiting for one of them?

In Siracusa itself, the best and the cheapest food is at Da Mariano; it's on a tiny street near the Fonte Aretusa; vicolo Zuccara, I think. If you are prepared to pay more, Don Camillo on via Maestranza is elegant and very good, but the chef has a heavy hand with the salt. When you order, tell them to ask him to use salt sparingly.

There are several responses about Il Nido on your other thread. Just click on your own name to find your other posts.

Il Nido runs a free shuttle bus to town and the bus/train station. The schedules are on their website. The Sita busses also pass Il Nido so you can use those during the times their shuttle isn't running which is usually mid-day.
