Tuscany rainy day suggestions?
Greetings! Staying at an agriturismo near Pienza next week. The 10 day forecast is predicting three days of rain . . . Your suggestions for interesting rainy day excursions?

Thanks

Hi Roberta

Try Grotta del Vento http://www.grottadelvento.com/. If I'm right they offer a number of different length tours of the caves - they are quite spectacular. Or how about doing all the major museums of Florence? And there's always the food....

Alun

Also realize that 3 days of rain doesn't necessarily mean all day rain. When we were in Italy two weeks ago, the forecast was for rain for 4 days straight. It turned out we got an hour or two each evening, but most of the day was fine.

Thank you, Alun John and Zootsie.

I agree about the rain being an occasional, if daily, event. Spent third week of April in Sarteano. Just carried an umbrella. No big deal.
How about the Etruscan museum in Chiusi? It is fantastic! If you ask for a guide, you can see Etruscan tombs nearby. Different tombs are open on different days, including the "monkey tombs."
Enjoy!
In '99 I had several rainy days in Tuscany. Good thing I brought a water-proof jacket w/ a hood. We still did the Walled-city tour and walked around in the rain. Can't let a little rain stop you!

The Abbey at Oliveto Maggiore is close and wonderful. Buy some brunello and pecorino and hang out in Montalcino.

Lots of great ideas - rain or shine - thank you all!
