Tuscany Personal Guides

My wife and I will be visiting Italy in Septmeber for 2 weeks and I will be staying for 5 nights in Florence. I would like to check whether someone know a good private tours for Tuscany around Florence, such as Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Chianti, Pisa and Lucca. We are very interested to see the culture, building and even food and wine. Any idea?

Hi, and I think you're going to have a fabulous time. I spent a month in Italy this past September, stayed in the Tuscany/Umbria region and visited several of the towns - Chiusi, Citta Della Pieva, San Gimignano, Civita Di Bagnorregio, Pienza, Siena, and Orvieto. I didn't do Pisa only because I fell ill but I will be there next month.

IMHO, I don't think you need a private tour to visit Tuscany. Not sure if you plan to rent a vehicle, however, it you are, it's easy to get around. Likewise, if you aren't renting a car; I found the train and bus system to be quite efficient. My friends and I did both and everything worked out great. My recommendation is to get a good guidebook (we used Rick Steves) and explore on your own.

The one tour we did take was of a winery in Chianti, where the owner of the winery gave us a personal tour. We had to make reservations in advance for that, but the tour itself was quite nice.

Unfortunately, since our friends and I did our own exploring, I can't assist with tour guides, but despite that, I wish you happy travels. The region is so beautiful; I can't say enough about it!

Rbezzina, some years back, we used COUNTRY TOURS out of Siena. We took a day tour around southern Tuscany visiting several towns including Pienza. It was well worth the money.

I believe there is a thread on this forum about recommendations for guides/tours in Italy. You will love Florence and surrounds....
