Tuscany Lodging request....
 

I need your help. We are travelling to the countryside, and narrowing down where to stay is overwhelming, It all looks so gorgeous! We finally booked our flights for a very reasonable $699 on American Airlines. We are flying into Florence 9/19 and out of Rome 10/1. We plan to spend 4 days in Florence, and just booked two nights in Antica Dimora Firenze and Johanna 1 for 2 nights. It's very affordable, and now we can do a splurge in the countryside!

As for the rest of our time, we are looking to stay a few nights in Siena, and another few nights in Montepulciano. We are looking at Villa Il Poggiale and Il Falconniere (for a splurge). Someone also recommended Castello di Spaltenna. We are still doing some research on places to stay in Montepulciano. If you have any ideas, pls let me know or any other areas you can recommed I'd love to hear about!

After that we plan to take a drive to the Amalfi Coast for 2-3 days, and stay in Positano. We are looking at a place called Miramare. http://www.miramarepositano.it/ I would love to stay at Le Sirenuse, but that might be too much of a splurge! Any other suggestions?

Then we drive back and spend one night in Rome and head home! :-( Any suggestions on not very expensice but clean Rome hotels?

We stayed at the Sant Antonio resort in Montepulciano this past April (http://www.santantonio.it/). Not sure if they'll rent less than a week or not but the location is BEAUTIFUL. We also looked into the Politian Apartments (http://www.politian.com/accommodation.htm)in Montepulciano and decided against it for a bigger place.

The Cortona location is not the best to see Tuscany.

For Rome, look at Albergo Cesari and Nicolas Inn.

We stayed in an apartment we found at www.VRBO.com #13370. It had incredible views. We loved it. There is no AC, but with the shutters shut during the day it was fine. We stayed in Apartment A. It suited us much better than apt. b. We rented for a week though, I'm not sure if Maurizio will rent for less time.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! We booked our stay at palazzo del capitano and can't wait to go! We're leavign at the end of September. PS. I just learned from the hotel that you must park in a public parking area, as the hotel has no parking. Is it expensive?

It is free---about 300 meters from the hotel. You will love San Quirico. You can drop your bags first. Roberto also owns the Vecchio Forno trattoria that is very good.

I took Bob's recommendation of palazzo del capitano for our trip this past April. It was a great location to visit the other hill towns and a wonderful hotel.

We stayed in the Capricorn room which was huge. Parking is a little tight and a short walk but it should not be a problem.

Enjoy your trip, southern Tuscany is goregous.
