Tuscany Lodging - Ankhura vs. Terre di Nano

After researching many B&Bs and agriturismos in Tuscany, I have narrowed it down to Terre Di Nano and Ankhura. I wish I had two weeks in Tuscany to stay at both of these places, but I only have 4 days. I've read all the reviews on TripAdvisor on both and am still having trouble deciding on which one I should go with!

TERRE DI NANO - http://www.terredinano.com/
Address:
Località Nano
53026 Monticchiello di Pienza

TA Reviews - 47 reviews, 4.5 stars, 95%
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...o_Tuscany.html

Gorgeous country house with immaculate grounds and pool, good location, highly rated and popular, wine tour, excellent dinners, bike rentals, hiking, cooking classes, €140/night

================================================== ================

ANKHURA - http://www.ankhura.com/
Address:
Via Sant' Emidio, 10
Monterongriffoli 53020 San Giovanni D'Asso

TA Reviews - 29 reviews, 5 stars, 100%
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...a_Tuscany.html

Small but charming B&B, cooking classes, truffle hunting, hot air ballooning, wine tour with brunello di montalcino expert, guelfo who is writing a book on the wine, delicious dinners, no pool, €120/night

================================================== ================

As a first timer to Tuscany, which one should I choose? I appreciate any help with this.

I would choose Terre di Nano for location. The location of Ankhura appears too remote and the town too small (population 9) to offer anything. I like to eat in a variety of restaurants for dinner and there doesn't seem to be anything around Ankhura.

I'd stay at Terre di Nano because it's Italian-owned and operated and has been there for ages. Ankhura seems very new, and the people named in TA reviews are Stina and Lars, a Swedish couple. Anders, the chap shown on the Web site with his son Konrad, who's run the place since fall 2009, certainly isn't Italian either.

Hi citychic- I've posted here a few times about my stay at Terre di Nano 3 years ago and I definitely would go back.

The setting is beautiful and peaceful, and the owners are great - we dealt with the son Giorgio who was very helpful ahead of our visit, and responsive to emails, and available during our stay.

It's only about a mile from Monticchiello, and not far from Montepulciano. I chose the Terrazze apartment for the great terrace which we enjoyed every day.

You will love it! I also recommend, if you haven't already, check out Stu Dudley's driving tour suggestions for Tuscany - I borrowed one and it really added a lot to my trip!

The area around Terre di Nano is simply breathtaking. The nearby village of Monticchiello is tiny - just a couple (literally!) of shops, but two outstanding restaurants are located there: Osteria La Porta and Taverna di Moranda. La Porta has a terrace overlooking the Val D'Orcia countryside - a fabulous place for a leisurely lunch, and Moranda is a small, intimate, dinner only restaurant with arched brick ceilings/ walls and wonderful food. Both are highly recommended.

Haven't had the chance to go back yet, but they're still getting rave reviews on TripAdvisor. You'll love it.

We stayed at Terre di Nano in 2010, plan on going back 2014. Tried emailing and it keeps getting returned, has anyone emailed them lately?

I tried through the website, and from my own server, emailing them at [email protected]

The last time I tried emailing from their website it seemed to work, so I will wait and see if I hear from Giorgio.

We loved Terre di Nano, our neighbors are staying there this fall. Can't wait to go back, it's an exceptional place.

I did hear from them, they had a few days of computer problems, all communication has been great since. Have our reservation for 2014!

Anyone stayed there recently?

Just wondering why it's so much more expensive than other Agriturismo. I am also wondering if there is any problem with the lack of air-conditioning in summer.

Haven't stayed there but over New Years last year we spent a week here and loved it! It is in the same area just outside Montepulciano.
