Tuscany lodging

We are going to be in Italy in May and would suggestions for lodging in the Tuscany area. We'll arrive in Pisa and want to stay somewhere in the "countryside". I 'd like someplace very clean, but aesthetically desirable and representative of Italy. Any thoughts on Florence-should we just take the train in? Venice lodging? I 'll take any suggestions you have! Thanks alot!

Sharon, We meet again!! I know many places that
will meet your criteria, but Tuscany is a big place
and we need to define a general location first.
Given a week, I usually suggest 2 locations. One
near to the Florence/Lucca area, and the other
south near Siena. Given one location, then the
San Gimignano area is a good compromise.
Let's talk !!

We just returned from 7 days in Tuscany. Stayed at the Hotel Pescille about 2 kms outside of San Gimignano - ph: 0577940186. It was a great home base - we did day trips to Siena, Florence, Volterra, and into Umbria. It's an old converted farmhouse - very comfortable, and very reasonable. Nice pool, good breakfast daily. I would highly recommend it.

There is a wonderful place about 25 minutes from Florence called Salvadonica (sp?). We found it in Karen Brown's guide book. Gorgeous setting overlooking pool and olive trees--they make their own olive oil. The place is run by two young sisters, Beatrice and Francesca who we truly enjoyed.
