Tuscany in May
Trying to find B and B or hotel in Tuscany for first week of May, off beaten path. Near Siena or Certadalo. Not having much luck many places already booked. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks

Hi Stoopswats,
Have you tried: venere.com italyby.com chianti.net Fodor's Italian Inns of Charm & Character - book town web sites? Tuscany is a big area and there are thousands of options. You'll find something. Especially try for places you HAVEN'T seen recommended here! Too many people trying for the same few places..... I stayed at Hotel Residence San Sano a few years ago and loved it. Almost no one ever talks about it here. In Chianti 20 minute's drive north of Siena. A 4*, not a B&B, but a small hotel in ancient stone buildings, microscopic village, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Nice pool, great breakfast, dinner optional, no tourists except those at the hotel. Buon viaggio! |
We stayed at Santa Caterina just outside the walls in Siena. Easy access to the city by foot or bus, with parking if you plan to explore the coutryside. Only one of rooms has a small balcony - with the most amazing view of the hills. The breakfast garden was so lovely you didn't want to leave. The accomodation are rather modest but fairly large and quiet. Pleasant staff! I'd go back happily.

So which is it---Siena or Certaldo?
They are not very close to each other. |
We just got in to Il Paigano in Certadalo for five days. A B and B web site said they were booked. But when I went directly to them they were open.
Second question having had five days of rest we have five days to hit it hard. We have been to Rome, Florence Venice and Bologna. We want to fly out of Florence, any suggestions for interesting places to travel by train for the four we have left. |
Lucca & Verona.
