Tuscany Hotel

Has anyone stayed at Castello di Velona outside of Montalcino?..We purchased a 5 night stay on a auction site..it looks luxurious, but would like some more feedback on the property.

bobthenavigator Aug 5th, 2004 06:10 AM

Never heard of it--is it new and do you have a website?

mclaurie Aug 5th, 2004 06:18 AM

If you type the name in the text search there are 2 other threads that ask for info about it with no responses.

There is one glowing review on tripadvisor that says it's better than the website

Here's the direct URL: http://www.castellodivelona.it/eng/

Looks to me like fairly decent place to stay :D

Could you post the auction site?

dunnelli Aug 5th, 2004 03:59 PM

Here is the auction website:
Thhttp://www.luxurylink.com/e website

It has properties all around the world!! Castello di Velona looked really nice..and had a great location next to Montalcino and the Brunello vineyards. It is also next to a 12th-century abbey(Abbazia di Sant' Antimo) where the monks still belt out Gregorian chants.

bobthenavigator Aug 5th, 2004 04:04 PM

Wow--saw that. Looks fantastic, but it was not there my last trip. It is a good :20 south of Montalcino very near St. Antimo. Have fun and report back.

Thanks!!!! We will be there in the third week of September.I will give a full report on this property and the area. We are also spending 3 nights in Positano on the Amalfi Coast.

Aaak! Make that La Calcina in Venice.

It may be rude of me for asking, but would you be willing to share the amount of your winning bid for Castello di Velona?

dunnelli Aug 7th, 2004 09:00 AM

No problem!!!...The winning bid was $1225..for 5 nights in a exclusive suite w/a fireplace, breakfast for two each morning,a bottle of locally produced wine, and a wine tasting tour, plus a 3-course dinner for two, on a night of my choice.

bobthenavigator Aug 7th, 2004 09:28 AM

Does anyone know if this place is set in the country or town?

Eloise Aug 9th, 2004 11:27 AM

By the look of it, it's in the country:

I am working with a travel planner from AMEX and she highly recommends it. I am staying there for one night in early October. Pretty pricey - I think my room is about $520 US. I have to ask what are they charging you?

Budman Aug 11th, 2004 05:28 PM

WOW! $520 a night for a hotel room? I'm paying less than that for an apartment in Montepulciano for one week.

I would rather spend my money on food & wine. I don't have an unlimited amount of money to spend, so I prioritize. Food & wine in Tuscany are a great priority. ((a)) ((b))

dunnelli Aug 11th, 2004 08:35 PM

I am paying $1225 for 5 nights. This was a winning bid on www.luxury link.com.....they have auctions on all types of luxury properties all over the world, but they can also customize trips for you.Budman does have a good point..enjoy the great food and wine!!!
