Tuscany Help
I will be in Germany in late September with DD and my best friend. After she leaves I am looking into extending my vacation with DD (2 1/2yrs old) for another week or two. I am seriously considering Tuscany but have a few questions:
1.) Would the Tuscany region be a good idea? It will be just me and a toddler. I will be about 25wks pregnant so obviously the wine is pretty much out :( but I want to enjoy some yummy food! I plan on having a car and want to be able to relax on days I want/need to and be able to go on more adventurous day trips on days that I feel like it. No serious agenda....just enjoy where I am. 2.) If you think Tuscany is a good idea would you recommend San Gimignano as a good base? I am hoping to find an agriturismo with a small apartment and restaurant (any suggestions?) At this point I have no "must return" by date. It will come down to budget so the less I spend on accommodations the longer I can stay ;) I am lucky that DD is an amazing traveller! |
Why so far--why not Salzburg and the castle country of Bavaria?

poppet,
This may give you some ideas http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/tuscany/hs_planning.htm |
car rentals in italy are very very expensive..
tuscany/umbria would make an easy trip if you stay out of the big cities like florence etc.. san gig. is overrun with tourists...pick a smaller hill town...poppi is nice.. todi is nice |
Hi poppet
This looks like a kid friendly Farm with a lot of activities. It is in a great location near Pienza.Very scenic. This is my favorite area of Tuscany. http://www.cretaiole.it/family.en.php |
We have already done the Salzburg/Bavaria area and want something different :) The only part of Italy I've seen is Rome but I would love to see more of the country!
Interesting on the car prices....so far it doesn't seem much more than when we rented in France and Ireland. Something to keep an eye out for. I don't love the idea of driving by myself with a toddler but it seems that is the only way to get everything out of the area. Thanks for the Farm rec! It looks great! I sent off an email to find out prices :) |
