Tuscany gas stations/cash or charge?

Will be doing a lot of driving from Pisa, through Tuscany, ending in Florence. Will most gas stations accept charge cards? Am trying to avoid carrying loads of cash if possible. Tolls take charge cards too, right?
Any advise will be greatly welcomed.
Thanks, Lisa S

Yes and yes !
For the toll booths be sure to get in the VIA lane. I try to charge all I can while in Europe.

WE just returned from Tuscany and as long as there was an attendent at the gas station they took charge cards. On Sunday morning in Florance I tried on of the automatic (unatended) stations and could not get my credit card to work.

I tried to use my credit card, but it was not accepted, so I used cash at the automated machine. I had to ask someone to help me use it.

just got back. seems when we filled up it was always afterhours. so no credit cards. however, the machines will take cash 24 hours. you just press the button for the amount you want to put in and then select the pump number and it will come on and give you the amount you put in the machine. it will take a minute the first time you use it to get used to it but you will be old hat the second time around. you should really have not problem.
