The beauty of is it the wonderful blend of picturesque historic hilltowns, colorful markets, gorgeous scenery, relaxing restaurants, and several great cities full of art and architecture. So much variety, and extremely low stress.

Dayle Jun 20th, 2005 05:17 PM

Oh, and did we mention the wine?

rex Jun 20th, 2005 05:24 PM

The answers so far are all "soot on" - - but there are opportunities to "museum out" if you wish...

In Pisa, Volterra, Cortona, others, no doubt - - and of course, Florence (th mother lode) IS in Tuscany.

Best wishes,

Rex

The residents or the tourists?

Enjoy some of the most incredible scenic vistas and see some of the most picturesque towns, as well as just soak up the most wonderful Italian countryside ambiance *and* all the stuff that bashawk and starrsville said, that was also beautifully described by abbydog!! (How is that for the king of run on sentences?)

Not a dumb question....no such thing!
You have received some wonderful ideas on this post....they are all good.
Some simply enjoy the gorgeous scenery, and visit and walk the hill towns....other people DO things like biking , walking countryside, hiking,.Depends on your interests.

Not a dumb question at all! You've gotten excellent responses. Let me just add that Tuscany isn't the greatest,( as I found out only recently) for hardened Type A personalities who only do well when dodging vespas in Rome.

I found Tuscany heavenly. My husband was bored to tears.

I'm one of the scariest Type As you'll ever meet. I didn't think I could adapt to a week biking in Tuscany. I did so well that Florence caused me claustrophobia when I went back at the end of the week (I love Florence too, don't get me wrong!)...that's how relaxed I got! My trip report highlights my 'escape' to Pisa for fresh air and a smaller crowd...

amyb,

I'm glad to hear that there's hope for my husband! Maybe next time we'll try the bike trip?!

Don't miss Sienna - we liked it more than Florence.

And to the east between Sienna and Florence is the Castel Barolo, a beautiful castle and vineyard that has a magnificent view back at Sienna.
