Thanks! This is a pretty relaxed trip compared to previous trips I've been on, so we'll see. Knowing that some think this is too quick, we basically have listed what we'd ideally like to see, grouped them geographically, even cutting areas out, and now are ranking our top picks so that when we actually get there, we can decide to stay longer and cut something ranked lower or realize it isn't what we thought and move on and adjust our time elsewhere. Regretfully, we don't have more time. I will most certainly post after the trip b/c surely I am not the only one out here with limited time to travel! My mom would say (and did) oh, it's not enough time, but the problem is we would never go anywhere far away that is interesting, because it's never enough time - so it's either go and know you'll have to make choices, or don't go and sit around wishing you could go. My parents have the luxury of time (retired) and money to travel however long wherever they like - and that's great - but I'm 30 years away from that probably! It's also not a good time $ wise to go with the weak dollar, but again, we could sit around waiting forever for the "right" time.
So, any help ranking what to do and even how long things take appreciated. And look for a trip report after our return 5/11, certainly - it's the least I can do after all the great thoughtful advice from this forum. |
You are certainly planning this trip with the right frame of mind. When one goes to Tuscany, he/she should go with two thoughts:
1. I can't possibly see everything. 2. I'm going back! I remember refining and refining and refining our "A list" of must-sees. Still, we didn't come close to seeing and doing everything on that list. The Eyewitness book should be a big help in the "refinement" process. PS: You'll also love your day at Lake Como! |
Thank you Howard! The book is great and from what I've read of it so far, I know it will be a big help. I appreciate the comment about Lake Como - we are going for sure, and I plan to really enjoy visiting w/ our friend, the scenery, and winding down there (with someone else driving) before we head out!

When I first read of your plans to spend your first full day at Lake Como with friends, I thought it not a good idea. Now, I think it's a great idea! It'll give you a chance to relax after your long flight and I can thing of a no more relaxing and pleasurable experience that riding around Lake Como on a boat with friends!
