If I am looking to visit the Tuscany area..and then ultimately drive down to Positano..I want to visit Siena and San Gimignano one day and see a winery and possibly see Lucca..where should I stay..I am thinking centrally Siena..does anyone have a suggestion..

I would home base in Florence and take a train to Lucca for a day trip. I went on a wonderful daytrip to tuscany. In fact I've taken this trip twice and am going again in may. Go to City Discovery' excursion in the heart of chianti classico with dinner. Another site is, www.florenceandtuscanytours.com. Look on the left side and you will see"on your own tours". If you go with a guide on these,it is a waste of time. The guide on the City Discovery tour is very good.

Do you want to stay in town so you can walk to dinner at night or out in the countryside so driving on day trips will be easier?
