In Umbria - One more vote for Le Case Gialle www.lecasegialle.com. Lovely setting in an organic olive farm. If you go late enough in May, the fireflies may be flickering through the grove (magical for me since I haven't lived in 'firefly land' since childhood). Mauro can set you up with wine tastings, you can hike in the hills, dip in the pool, borrow guitars and bikes, and there are lots of nice Umbrian towns nearby to explore.

In Tuscany - loved a little agriturismo B&B near Greve (in Chianti) called Podere Torre.

Access it through www.greve-in-chianti.com. Look under Chianti vacation rentals and scroll down to the agriturismi/B&B section.

A totally charming place.

Definitely go to Monticchiello in Tuscany for lunch. You could do this on the day you drive from Tuscany to Umbria. This a beautiful drive. This is a very small town and you can park just outside of the walls of the town. For lunch walk 30 steps up the hill from parking and on the left find Taverna di Moranda. We've eaten there three times and it was the best meal we have ever had in Italy.

Thank you for all of the wonderful recommendations! I am going to spend some time researching and checking availability, and I will follow up with more specific questions. If anyone has more ideas for restaurants, vineyard tours, etc., please share. Thanks again!

Hi mpfitz,

Here's a wonderful place to stay in Tuscany- Fonte Bertusi. It's a beautiful agriturismo located just outside of Pienza. It's my favorite place in Italy.

This May I am spending a week at Le Case Gialle in Umbria and a week (actually 9 days) (for the 3rd time) at Fonte Bertusi.

I spent a few lovely days at the Palazzo Consoli (B & B) in a very small town near Orvieto. Monteleone d'Orvieto is a very peaceful hilltop town. The Palazzo has lovely rooms terrific food. We had their "best" suite and it was beautiful, with frescoes on the ceiling in the livingroom and the bedroom, and the furniture was all antique.

palazzoconsoli.it is their www address. Have a look!
