While in Tuscany (15 miles south of Florence) this coming May, do we have enough time to visit both Volterra and San Gimingano on the same day ? We will have a car.

We are spending 4 nights in Tuscany and are planning one full day in Florence ... hopefully combine Volterra and San Gim together on another day ..... one full day in Sienna ... any other suggestions for the last day ??? maybe we need 2 days in Florence ?

Yes---I would hit Volterra first and be there by 0930.

I agree with Bob--you can visit both in the same day. We have done it several times. FWIW--I find Volterra to be the more interesting with Etruscan, Roman and Renaissance elements. SG tends to thin out in the late afternoon--4:30 on.
You can never have enough days in Florence but driving in is a hassle. There are many, many destinations in Tuscany--consider a visit to chianti.
