Tuscany

I am going to have a few days heaquartered out of Siena to tour the hills in a rental car. I am trying to decide how to use the time best. I could go to Pisa, or perhaps discover some off the beaten path Tuscan hill town to explore, dine and relax in. Does anyone have any experiences or suggestions they'd like to share. Any help is much appreciated.

Not "off the beaten track", but the most obvious towns to explore from Siena would include San Gimignano, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Voltera and Monteriggioni.

Pisa is around 2 hours from Siena by car (If ViaMichelin is to be believed). It would be less time to explore places like Pienza, Cortona, Arezzo or Orvieto - all within 90 minutes.

The very obvious attraction from Siena would be Florence, but I would rather take the bus than have to worry about driving and parking.

Forget Pisa---too many better options that are closer. Buy the book TOP 10 TUSCANY by Reid Bramblett for all you need to know.

All right, thanks for the book I will try it. I am actually doing Florence before I head into Siena so the only driving i will be doing there is driving out of it. Any more suggestions?

Almost any direction from Siena takes you to great scenes and hill towns.
Get a good guide book (like the one Bob suggested-Glad to see you back Bob!)and enjoy.
