Tuscany

We are heading to Tuscany and don't know what to see or what to skip.
Please review and send suggestions (my husband speaks Italian fluently).

What should we see, where should we eat, where can we relax...and we are looking to enjoy the hillsides of Tuscany and drinking wine???

Friday arrival in Rome: Pick up rental car
Drive to our hotel outside of Florence -- The Villa Cora - evening in Florence
Saturday: Chianti
Sunday: Siena
Monday: A day in Milan (to visit friends)
Tuesday: Day in Florence with a romantic dinner
Wednesday: San Gimignano + another stop?
Thursday: Check out of Hotel and head to Rome -- stop in Siena for 1/2 day
Evening: Meeting up with family in Rome
Friday: Rome
Saturday: Depart

I only wish I was going with you to enjoy the hillsides in Tuscany and drinking wine. One of my favorite drives is through the rolling hills of Chianti along the local S222 between Florence and Siena. Make a point of stopping in Greve...I can almost taste the proscuitto e meloni at the cafe at the end of the square.

Hi denino,

May I suggest that on your way to Rome you stop in Orvieto instead of Siena (you've already spent a day).

You could drop the car there and take the train to Rome. I believe that that is easier than dropping off the car in Rome.

Thanks...any other suggestions?

Nothing more than just a suggestion here. I personally didn't see the need to spend a full day in San Gimignano, more like a couple of hours would be sufficient. You may want to lump this in with your Chianti or Siena itinerary.

Just to re-iterate ira's suggestion - Orvieto is very good stop and car drop-off point. It was a nightmare to have drive into Rome, as unfamiliar about the city as I am, and to locate the car rental agency.

Car Rental...pick up -- drop off at the Rome airport.

I personally find Southern the most beautiful. I would definitely make a stop in Montalcino, Pienza or Montepulciano on the way to Rome.

Search "kilkelly" here for info on the wine routes of Chianti.

Best wishes,
