Tuscany 2008
 

Hi all - I know this is a little early, but we're so excited about the possibility of going that we want to do some research now. We would like to visit Tuscany, but need some advice as to what are the best places to hit. We are interested in museums, architecture, castles and great food. We're probably going to be getting an open jaw ticket into Zurich (my husband has family in Switzerland), stay there a few days, and then travel by train into Italy. What do you think?

Wow---someone who likes to plan as far ahead as I do. There's lots of help for you here, but you should read all you can first and then come back with specific questions.

Flying into Zürich and taking the train from there is very easy---you can catch the train right in the airport. Once you get to Tuscany, you might consider renting a car to see all the small places you can't reach by train.

You can usually get travel books at a discount through Amazon (I get several)...try Eyewitness Top 10 Tuscany by Reid Bramblett, Michelin's Green Guide to Tuscany and if you're driving get the Touring Club Italiano's Toscana (Tuscany) map (green/gold one) One place to get it online is from thesavvytraveller.com

You will find loads of information here...sometimes it's overwhelming and your head spins...everyone has different opinions. ;-) You will have to decide what's best for you. Have fun planning.
