Tuscancy in the late Fall
 

Our trip to Tuscany was postponed from early Fall due to a medical emergency. Girls trip will now be from November 26- December 6. Somewhat flexible on how we spend our time in Italy but have a free house to stay in Tuscany. We are wondering what to do without the Tuscan sun...

Where in Tuscany are you staying...it's a large area...

Where's the house? Tuscany is 9000 square miles.

The villa we will stay in is in Montecatini. We are foodies, wine lovers, sight-see'ers, and sort of art appreciaters. I was really looking forwarding to sitting outside in the warm sun in September and feel like the weather is going to put a damper in a lot of our outdoor enjoyment. Before we arrive in Tuscany we will be in Lucerne Switzerland for a few days. Still have to figure out what train to take from Lucerne and to where in Italy. Thinking we will take the train to Pisa and then rent a car for a week.Is it necessary to have a car in Tuscany? We will finish our trip in Rome (for about 4 days) but have heard its not a good idea to drive there.

Your dates will definitely dictate that sitting outdoors in the warm sun will probably not be an option. You are also going to be in Northern Tuscany which makes it even more unpredictable weatherwise. That said, I remember a wonderful week, albeit in mid-November so not exactly the same time as yours, and we were blessed with lovely weather. It was not warm but also not too cold and sunny weather for most of our 9 days there.

Necessary to have a car in Tuscany? No. BUT very advisable and makes travelling easier. It is not difficult at all to drive there and I love it. I would say that indeed you should drop your car in Rome and not be driving there, very hectic and very unpredictable.

If you are art lovers you can plan your days accordingly weatherwise and be indoors at lovely museums, churches, etc. Have a good time and good luck with the weather.
