Turner in Venice
(Ooops-I thought I had posted this but don't see it.)
If you have time- go to this website and view the video. Its about Turner in Venice and makes you (or at least me) to hop a plane to Venice this weekend. http://www.christies.com/special_sit...r06/turner.asp |
Turner is an ancestor of mine. He was a scandal to the family at the time. They should have been nicer to him and maybe he would have left them some of his paintings!!
|
LOL Love, we never know who we should have been nicer too until it is too late :D
Turner is one of my all time favorite painters. Thanks, Italyagain, for the link. |
A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to see a show of Turner's Venice works exhibited in Venice, the same fall that the big Turner, Monet & Constable show, which I also saw, was in Paris. What a treat that was!
To actually own one of those works would be incredible. |
The Turner in Venice was sold today at Christie's in New York for a new record for a British painting of $35,856,000. You can read a full story at:

And it apparently was bought by a private collector. My goodness!
|
Maybe, we can hope...the collector loans the work to a museum. Sigh.
Yes, would have loved to have bought it myself. But - hum- that painting sold for the equivalent of about 7000 trips to Italy by my budget. And could even add on a few side trips to the Tate in London to see the rest of them. I think I will settle for the real thing (not that I have a choice mind you.) |
Italyagain,
Oh, what a beautiful way to start the day...thank you for sharing.... |
