Turkish Delight

Turkey is a truly remarkable country. "A womans paradise of sorts," it encompasses beautiful scenery, very handsome men, terrific shopping bargains and delicious food! My friends and I stayed at Hotel Empress Zoe, which is owned by an American named Ann Nevans. It was a charming jewel of a hotel, but not recommended for the elderly. There are many and I repeat many steps and spiral staircases (a Byzanntine stairmaster of sorts!) We had a wonderful time there and would absolutely return. Also, of note: look for Ishan (the besttaxidriver.com)near Aya Sophia. He's really funny and entertaining and a great guide.

KG - was wondering if you have a web address for the Hotel Empress Zoe - sounds like a great hotel.

Mark,
Empress Zoe was an amazing hotel! My cousin married a Turkish girl and her parents met as there before dinner one night. They as Turks, were even impressed! It dates back to the Byzanntine era and is centrally located in the old section of Istanbul (Sultanhamet). The address is: empresszoe.com Any other questions, please feel free to respond or email me directly. I'd be happy to fill you in.

KG, are you the one asking for advice regarding the woman travelling to Turkey without the male excort?
How did you feel there? Have you encountered any unpleasant situations?
Were people always friendly?

Did you go elsewhere in Turkey? Any recommendations? We spent a few days last year on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey - absolutely loved it and we're wanting to go back next year.
