What is the currency in Turkey? Did they change it like the rest of Europe, if not what is the best currency to bring and where is the best place to change?
Thanks

The Turkish currency is the Lira. Not sure about your other q's.

They have not changed to the euro, and use the Turkish lira. Their exchange rate fluctuates quite a bit. It is now 1,374,000 to the dollar.
Nearly everyone there will accept US dollars. If you exchange, do so at a doviz (a currency exchange you find on main streets, especially in the Sultanahametarea which is very touristy). Check the rates at several before you exchange and make sure there is not a surcharge. You can also use the ATM's in Itanbul fairly easily; we had trouble in some of the smaller places getting the the ATM's to work. Be very careful because the 5 million and the 500,000 bills (I thinK) look quite a bit alike.Crdit cards are the best to use, I think!

The currency is the Turkish Lira.

As previous poster said the best is to use ATM or credit cards. You can withdraw money almost everywhere.

Just in case of emergency, take around 100 USD (if you are American) or the equivalent amount in a hard currency.

If you still want to change avoid touristic centers. In Istanbul, the best are around Taksim, avoid Sultanahmet!

Isabelle - Davraz Pension
http://davrazia.free.fr

Takism is probably a better place but we never had trouble in Sultanahmet, just had someone with us to watch out. Also, take lots of $1's. We took about 50 and were glad we had them!
