Turkey Trip Report

Recently spent three weeks in Turkey, including three days in Istanbul, four days along the coast including Troy and Kusadsi, six days on a gulet cruising the Turquoise Coast, two days in Antalya, four days in Cappadocia, and ended our trip in Ankara. It was one of the best trips we have ever taken.

We felt safer in Istanbul than most big cities, the people throughout the country were warm and welcoming, the weather was great, and the food was outstanding. (Time to go back on a diet!) The high point of our trip was the balloon ride in Cappadocia.

There is so much to see and do in Turkey, and it is relatively inexpensive. I can't understand why more people don't travel there.

More details about the gulet please! There have been many questions about these. How and where did you book? How was it?

Yes. Your trip sounds terrific and more details would be very helpful, especially about the gulet cruise.

Our trip was with Odysseys Unlimited, which offers small-group tours with outstanding tour directors/guides. We had 11 people on our trip and spent six days on the gulet. It was a new boat, having been in service less than three months. We got on the gulet in Marmaris and ended our trip outside of Antayla. Most days we spent a good deal of time off the gulet exploring the area before cruising to a new location. But we were always back in the afternoon in time to swim, snorkel, or relax.

There was a crew of four, and the cook was outstanding. The cabins were a lot more spacious than we had expected, and the public areas were also very nice.

The gulet cruise was a relaxing and interesting way to see so much of the coast. I highly recommend it, even though I can't give you much in the way of detail about how to book it separately.

Sandi, I will soon post a much more detailed description of the entire trip!
