Turkey travel agent gave a "code", not airline tickets...

Hi everyone,

We are leaving soon for our trip to Turkey, and my travel agent has provided us with a code to present at the Istanbul airport in order to get on our domestic flight to Kayseri - no e-tickets or paper tickets. Does this sound normal?? They are Anker Travel, recommended on turkeytravelplanner.com, so I'm pretty sure they are reputable.

Thanks for your advice.

Can't speak for this specific airline, but I believe an 'e-ticket' is actually just a reservation/confirmation code.

Agree with Travelnut - and this does sound like the reservation number of the e-ticket. Have you asked the agent for a copy of the e-ticket file? I haven't had a paper ticket in ages and seldom have to show the print out of my e-ticket but would not want to travel without it. Normally I just had over my passport and say I have a reservation on such and such a flight - but in case of a problem I'd like to have a copy of the e-ticket with me

Hi. We went to Turkey last September and used a Turkish travel agency for our domestic Turkish Airlines tickets. They also gave us a code number and we just presented it at the airport and were issued our tickets. I know it seems strange, but nobody blinked an eye over the process. I was a bit concerned so upon arriving at the Istanbul airport, I immediately went to the ticket counter to get our tickets even though our flights weren't for several days. I figured that if I wasn't able to get the tickets, I had several days to work on it with the travel agency. If you need some peace of mind, you might want to go that route. But again, it wasn't a problem at all.

Thank you all so much - I guess that does make sense - all e-tickets are in essence codes.

Great suggestion about handling it immediately upon arrival in Istanbul as well, wj1 - we will certainly do that as we have a few days there to sort things out in the event of any problems.

hawaiimoon05,
Can't answer you question but how much are the tickets from Istanbul to Kayseri? THY or Onur? Also, do you feel at all apprehensive about traveling to Cappadocia in light of the current conflict? Thanks.

Hi milliebz,

I can't say for certain how much the flights are, unfortunately. I received a package price from my agent which includes 3 nights at the Esbelli Evi hotel in Cappadoccia, and that total came to 990 Euro.

In terms of the current conflict, I am honestly not concerned. From everything I have heard, Turkey is as safe as anywhere right now, and in fact, perhaps in part due to decreased tourism, they are quite friendly towards Americans (not sure if you are from the USA but we are).

I was at the World Trade Center on 9/11 and trust me, was as wary as could be of travel and airplanes for a while, but I really think that unless you are talking about Israel or Lebanon, your risk of travelling right now is no greater than ever before. (This of course comes on the heels of the flight bombing revelations of Aug. 10, but again, I still think it is safer now than ever).

Good luck!

I just realized that I didn't address your question of THY or Onur - I'm embarassed to admit I don't know what that means. Are there two airports in Capp? If so, I'm afraid my itinerary does not say which one...

hawaiimoon,
Thanks for you input. THY is Turkish Airlines and Onur is a lower priced airline. I am going to contact agents because I am also very interested in Esbelli. I already know their rates so I can compare that with air. Thanks for your help.
