Turkey to Greek Islands

I would appreciate some help on planning the itinerary after our Turkey portion of an upcoming trip for my wife and I. We want to finish in Turkey at Ephesus and go to a couple of Greek Islands probably by ferry from Kusadasi. With one of them, we will want to relax and get a feel for a quiet pretty island. We will need to be able to fly from the other island to Athens for our departure. I really appreciate your time. Thank you Sabbin

Well, the closest Greek island is Samos, you can easily take a ferry there from Kusadasi (sp?). Spend a few days there, and then fly from there to Athens or other islands. We liked Samos alot, especially the little port city of Pythagorium. Ephesus is my favorite ancient/ruin site (well city) - simply amazing.

Samos has very little options to cross to other major Islands except Pireaus and Mykonos. Ofcourse is well connected with the mainland via daily flights.

Mind you there are twice weekly direct flights Istanbul to Mykonos but finding a ticklet is a real challange.

Happy travelling,
Murat

I appreciate all your responses. Are there any small islands near Samos or Rhodes which would be nice to visit for a day or two? Thanks Sabbin

Ephesus is a very interesting place to visit, are you going to Gallipoli?
Samos would be a very good choice and Santorini is an island of great beauty.
You can fly to Athens from either of them.

In May we went from Ephesus to Chios, Geeece via ferry from Cesme. The ferry took about 45-50 minutes.

I thought Chios (the island, not the port town) was just great, and the walled cities of Mesta and Pyrgi were totally atmospheric. There were NOT many tourists there in May.

We then flew from Chios to Santorini (via Athens) in a few hours on Aegean Air and since we booked in advance it was about 100 US per person.

I loved the contrast of Chios and Santorini.
