Turkey--Should I bargain on room prices there too?

I am in the throes of planning a last minute trip. One guidebook I have says to always bargain for at least 15% off of whatever room rate you are initially quoted. I know that bargaining is expected in many situations in Turkey. Is this one of them? And, I am in contact with several apartment owners who have given me quotes. Are they expecting me to bargain, and will I be a fool if I don't? If you've travelled in Turkey, I'd appreciate some insights. Thanks.

I have never bargained on rooms. Only carpets and souvenir type things.

Julies, Depending on the time of year, some hotels may be willing to bargain. Most of the smaller hotels will give you a discount of 10% if paying in cash. I note that you are talking with apartment owners. I suspect that they may be willing to offer a discount, especially if paying in cash. Can't hurt to ask.

Dear posters,
As Jerrys said, you may get 10% off if you pay cash at smaller hotels. No common practice on barganing at hotels especially for 15%........Only if the hotel is desperate !!!!
In Istanbul finding a vacant room is challange most of the times. Jasonkeal, September is highest season of Cappadocia just to warn you.....

Julies; for your Goreme visit, try www.goremehouse.com if you can strech the budget just a little more, but its worth for the comfort and the service.

Happy travelling,

Murat

Sorry for the reminder of my message mixeded up with another answer....:-)
Julies: if you are hiring the apartment long term try to bargain, this would work better in this case.
Good luck,
Murat
