Turkey or Greece?
 

Hello,

We are debating Greece or Turkey. Which one would you recommend?
1/ Departure : 3/16 (For one week)
2/ Can we do Greece then from there go to Turkey for a couple of days?
3/What Turkish city is closed to Greece?

Any recommendation would be highly appreciated :)

Do you really mean closed? Or close? Assuming it's the latter, it will depend on where in Greece, and a map will answer the question.

But frankly, I cannot see what you can do with this information.

you can of course not "do Greece" or "do Turkey" in only 1 week.

We're trying to visit both countries in one week. Is it doable?

Athens and Istanbul. Fly between the two.

Long ago I took a boat from a Greek island a few miles off Turkish coast to Ephesus - site of ancient Troy - then bus up to Istanbul.

Ephesus was not the site of ancient Troy, PalenQ. Ephesus, which is well worth seeing, IMO, is near Selcuk, more than 300 km away from ancient Troy, which is near modern Canakkale.

KJA has it right. I've been to both Ephesus (Efes) and Troy (Truva). They are NOT one and the same and are nowhere near to each other.

I have not been to Turkey. But I have been to Greece often. I just can't get enough.

I suggest firstly you should visit to Greece around 4 days where you can visit Santorini islands which are best known for the cliff-top towns of Fira and Oia, you can also visit there to other famous places like Samaria Gorge, Nafplio etc. Thereafter you can fly to turkey for 2-3 days where you can visit most famous Butterfly Valley, Oludeniz which is one of the best places to visit in Turkey. You can laze around in a hammock, sip your favorite drink and enjoy campfire and music at the Rock Bar also.

You could spend the whole week in Istanbul, and still only skim the surface. It's an immense city, with loads of different areas, each with its own unique identity.

From the European side, you could have breakfast in Sultanahmet, then take a 25 minute public ferry ride to Kadikoy on the Asian side taking in some top class views along the way, and have lunch in Asia. Then return back to the European side, perhaps to Taksim, and enjoy dinner. Two continents in one day, and no need to show your passport.

The must-see sights can take days to cover, and for every must-see attraction there are half-a-dozen lesser visited sights which will give equal pleasure.

A full day ferry trip up the Bosporus is amazing, as is a public ferry trip out to the Princes Islands.

There are frequent short flights between Athens and Istanbul - the cities are very different but both BIG busy cities. It would not be my choice to do both in one trip - I'd chose one and add some more relaxed time to the city time - do the "unchosen" on another trip.
