The following, are six my suggestions, not in a rank, but in a random way as I read my notes:
B&B DELLA ROCCA, Via della Rocca, 10; 90 euro.
HOTEL PIEMONTESE, Via Berhollet, 21; 90 euro, including breakfast.
ARTUA' & SORRENTINO, Via Brofferio, 3 (at the corner of the important street Corso Re Umberto); 100 euro, including breakfast.
HOTEL AMADEUS, Via Principe Amedeo, 41 bis; 85 euro, including breakfast.
BORGODORA B&B, Via Andreis, 2; 70 euro.
HOTEL URBANI, Via Saluzzo, 7; 95 euro, including breakfast.

Have a nice trip.

We stayed at the Best Western GENIO directly near the train station and it was wonderful-easy for connections to Cinque Terre, rest of Piedmont and across the street from the fabulous shopping area of Turin. The hotel was a former palace and very nice, reasonable and gorgeous rooms!

I keep hearing that the area around the train station was bad.

The area south and east right by the Porta Nuova train station is seedy. North and west are fine. It chnages very quickly. Some of the most elegant streets are hose just north of the station.

We enjoyed our stay at the Star Hotels Majestic. Good value for money, excellent restaurant.

Thinking about location, then I strongly suggest ARTUA' & SORRENTINO, very close to Corso Re Umberto in a true "torinese" area of Turin.

Richard-from a fellow Chicagoan-the Hotel Genio was great! Their version of "Rodeo Drive" is just down the street.
