Turin - 24 hours
 

Hi
I will be in Turin overnight and have literally 8 hours the next day to see as much as possible...
1) Where should I stay to be walking distance to as much as possible?
2) I land at 10:30PM - how should I get to my hotel train/bus etc?
3) Is it worth hiring car?

the egyptian museum is excellent.

we saw the sacred shroud.

you do not need a car in the city.

we did like the town, though, although it was a quick visit like yours.

Cinema museum, a fantastic building -- and if the sky is clear take the elevator to the top.

Have a bicerin.

Where's your hotel? There's a convenient airport coach to the heart of town. There's also a commuter train to the airport, but it doesn't go to the area where most tourists book hotels.

Do not get a car. It's rough driving in town and parking is not that great. The heart of the city is very walkable.

Suggest that you scroll down the posts column for "Who knows Turin, Piemonte etc" basically the same question with several posters giving input on hotles and things to do.

Priority is easy access to the airport and central to walking to touristy things...

The Grand Sitea is a well-located hotel close to many key sites. Its sister hotel, the Turin Palace, is right next to Porto Nuova as well as the airport shuttle stop.

But proximity to the trains and shuttle is the Palace's only advantage. There, you're kind of on the south edge of the interesting part of the historic center and some of the areas around the back and sides of the station aren't the most attractive parts of this beautiful town.

There have been reports of some nice smaller places in the city, but I have no personal experience.
