Tullamore to Shannon or Dublin

I'm making arrangements for Ireland and I'm going to visit family in Mayo and then we're going to Tullamore to the Fleadh in August.

Does anyone know if it is as easy to get back to Shannon from Tullamore as it is to Dublin? Would rather avoid Dublin airport if possible.

It's not particularly to get from Tullamore to anywhere!

Three hours, much of it on county roads, should get you to Shannon. I'd allow a little more just to be on the safe side -- punctures, roadworks, whatever might arise.

Thanks Padraig.

The one thing I inadvertently left out was that we'd be using public transportation. That might make the different. Still would prefer to use Shannon.

Thanks!

I started my post like this: I think it makes a difference. I played a little with http://www.buseireann.ie/ using the journey planner. There seems to be no service that connects Tullamore with Limerick, the main waypoint if you want to get to Shannon.

Then, to be sure that the foregoing was correct, I tried for a service from Tullamore to Dublin Airport or even to Busaras in the city centre. Zilch. That's just not credible, so I dug in a little, and downloaded their network map. It shows a direct link to Dublin (as I would expect). So I went back to the Shannon preference. So far as I can see, you should be able to get to Shannon with one change (bus to Portlaoise, bus from there to Shannon). The site was a bit clunky but good when it worked. It has been redesigned so that it looks better, but it seems not to work as well.

Dig into it a bit, and you might be able to find the information you need. Happy hunting!
