Tulip Inn Venice Mestre
We have a morning flight out of Venice airport to Frankfurt, so are thinking of staying at a hotel near the airport that night. Has anybody stayed at the Tulip Inn? Any comments on this hotel or others in the area would be appreciated. Thanks<BR
Is the hotel really near the airport? As of two years ago, the hotels in Mestre were miles away from the airport ... and if you don't have a car (and why would you in Venice), much more inconveneint to get to. The Venice island hotels can at least get you a water taxi for any time of the morning --- they do it all the time for those international connection flights.

Plus it would be a pity to spend your last night in Venice actually staying in Mestre. (which is Italian for miserable, I believe)
Just have your hotel get you a crack of dawn cab to the airport - it's a beautiful time of day to be out on the water.

Karen, We just did the same thing and I agree that staying in Mestre is a good plan. We stayed at the Hotel Tritone which is right across from the train station and 100 meters from the bus station. We took an early bus that goes right to the airport in about :20.
The hotel is fine--a decent tourist class 3 star at about $100. Oh yes, we did take one last ride down the Grand Canal the last day by bussing into Venice from Mestre. It will work.

Hi Karen,
This might help:
Fares to downtown Venice: Bus $4. From Marco Polo Airport the blue ATVO buses make the 25-minute trip into Venice's Piazzale Roma terminal. From there, a Vaporetto (Boat) makes the hotel and various destination connections along the Grand Canal. There is a San Marco Motorscafo (Small Boat) that connects the Airport to the Piazza San Marco and Lido and is coordinated with flight departures and arrivals.

see
http://www.ehi.com/travel/ehi/italy/venice-airport-boat-bus-transportation.htm
