Is there a difference buying tulips over there instead of purchasing Holland Bulbs at a local nursery? I thought they would be the same product, only I didn't have to worry about transporting them. I'm headed over in 2 weeks and am very interested in your experiences. Thanks in advance! Cheers.

funtraveller, this is the season that bulbs go in the ground - until November or so - so you will probably have the best selection and probably much better prices than at home. I don't know what your selection or prices are at your local nursury, but the selection is terrific here right now. You can check out the flower market on the Singel in Amsterdam, or go to a garden supermarket (probably need a car), or go to the flower auction in Aalsmeer, and revel in the colors and sizes! Be sure to ask about early-, mid- and late-blooming varieties.

Hi, I just found this thread but wondered if there are any updates for bringing bulbs back. I'll be in Amsterdam the 1st week of November and was hoping to bring bulbs back to put in my garden for next spring :-)

Thanks!
Tina

There are at least two other threads in the last couple of weeks. Click my name for one of them. My bulbs were confiscated and destroyed by the USDA. Use the search box for other threads.

It is true and don't depend on the seller in the market where you buy them to give you straight goods. I seem to remember a long time ago driving into CA from Oregon and having to dispose of all fruit that I had in the car.
