Tube strike
We are planning to arrive in London Oct 2. We have heard there is a tube strike scheduled then. Anyone have any information?
|
Last strike ended at 8 pm on Wednesday 25 September, but no tube services will run until Thursday morning. Next strike is planned to start at 8 pm on Tuesday 1 October and again tube services aren't expected back until Thursday morning. Stike may still be cancelled if there is an agreement between unions and management. If you are arriving at Heathrow or Gatwick, you can get to London by train (Heathrow and Gatwick Express). There were long lines for buses, but taxis were plentiful and doing a roaring trade. Perhaps you may like to book a transfer service to your hotel.

What is a tube strike? Terrorism in a tube, doctor's refusing to do in vitro fertilization, or was that tube steak?

We were in London for the tube strike in July. We didn't book a car service in advance from the airport and I was sorry I didn't. We grabbed the Airbus instead which had a huge line, wasn't running on time and didn't drop us very close to our hotel. The tube didn't get going until the next morning (supposed to be over at 8:00PM) so try to have a plan of things to do around your hotel or try the buses but they will be crowded.

For more info on the strike you might try the BBC's website or www.thetube.com
