TTT, packing for Italy woohoo!

Hello all, still planning that trip to Italy. We are thinking about the 4 days in Bologna (since dh is working) then the 4 in Rome and the last 2 on the coast somewhere near the airport. I am curious, since I have never been to Italy or Europe, what do I pack? What should I take to wear, both for sight seeing and for eaing nice dinners out. Nothing formal but most likely places we will want to dress up some. I am pregnant, will be 27weeks pregnant at the time and will need some comfortable shoes for sight seeing. I have heard that Geox are great and aren't as taboo as tennis shoes, any opinions? Thanks in advance for any info you can send. Also, should I carry a purse, backpack or what? I know a camera is going to be a dead give away that scream tourist, but I can't give it up, I am a scrapbooker! :) Can't wait for some feedback and if I get to go shopping in the next couple of weeks that is great too, maybe I will even shop some in Italy!!! :)

What time of year are you traveling? Weather will make a difference as to what you should pack.

I am surprised that you can fly at 27 weeks - I had thought most airlines changed that recently.

Here's what I said on the other thread...

You don't need special clothes to travel.

Take mix and match pieces from your own normal wardrobe, so you can layer depending on the weather. I take pants and tops. A dressier blouse and jacket with dark pants is sufficient for dinner out at anything but the fanciest restaurants.

I like Geox but some styles don't have a lot of support. I always travel also with a pair of sneakers. You want to be comfortable to do hours of walking.

I carry my regular pocketbook, which is a good sized tote and would fit a camera.

If you buy new shoes make sure to wear them around for several weeks, keeping them on for hours at a time, to make sure they will work for you on your trip. Traveling is no time for new shoes!

I would pack a 24" suitcase to check thru plus what I am wearing on the plane with:
2-3 pants
5-7 tops
cardigan sweater
fitted jacket
socks, bras, undies
something to sleep in
skirt or dress if that's your style
2 pair shoes, plus 1 on my feet
cosmetics, toiletries, prescriptions

On the plane I'd carry an oversized pocketbook or small day pack with what you need on the flight (snacks, reading material, passport, cash/cards, important paperwork, etc.) and anything you can't afford to lose... prescriptions, eyeglasses, one change of clothes just in case, etc.

I pack similar to suze but carry on only. I use a 22 inch suitcase and a medium sized backpack.

I pack 4 pair of shoes and also a few sets of workout clothes in addition to her list and 4 pair of pants. Also an umbrella, a travel rain jacket, a pashmina for chilly days/evenings.

My walking shoes are Cole Haan and Ecco, and I bring 2 pair for day to switch off and a dressier pair for evenings since we dress for dinner.

Check the cut-off term for pregnant fliers with you airline. It used to be the third trimester but it might have changed. I have NO idea if they require Drs certificate.
