TTT, DH, GL....Acronymns Oh My!

Ok, I'm not sure if somewhere in the deep dark archives there is a post addressing this topic; therefore, I've taken it upon myself to ask. What do all the acronymns mean. If you know of Fodor's acronymns that some of us may be unfamiliar with...do share :)

I did learn what TTT means, so I'll start there.

TTT=To the Top Use this acronymn when you post a new thread or reply to one, and before anyone else sees it, it seems to move low on the list (i.e. lots of new posts hide your post). Maybe you're like me and really wanted feedback or comments. If so, simply reply to that thread with TTT, and that thread will move back up to the top of the list. :)

Looking forward to the rest. I really don't know what DH means?

lincasanova Mar 5th, 2006 09:03 AM

i know what you mean! dh.. dear/darn husband
dil.. dear/d. daughter in law
mil.. mother in law, etc. etc.should probably be some sort of a "d" in front of that...

btw.. by the way
otoh.. on the other hand
imo..in my opinion
imho.. in my humble opinion.

there might be a list somewhere.

where did these all come from? is this MSN language or something?

cigalechanta Mar 5th, 2006 09:06 AM

IMHO-in my humble opinion
ROFL-rolling on the floor laughing

lincasanova Mar 5th, 2006 09:14 AM

LOL.. laughing out loud

Kippy Mar 5th, 2006 09:32 AM

oh dear and here was I thinking that Fodorites were an affectionate lot.

Am I the only one who thought that LOL meant lots of love????

and what about GL?

Traviata Mar 5th, 2006 09:40 AM

Kippy,

No you are NOT the only one who thought LOL was Lots of Love or Lots of Luck...I did too...no wonder it never fit the context of what I was reading.......

ira Mar 5th, 2006 10:12 AM

Hi K,

Use GL in a sentence, please.

PITA * is an acronym, as it is pronounceable as a word. TTT, DH, etc are merely abbreviations.

(* Pain in the A..)

((I))

Kippy Mar 5th, 2006 10:31 AM

Ira.

GL appears in the OP (just practising!)
heading so I can't put it into any context.

Maybe Tamara will put it in a sentence.

Scarlett Mar 5th, 2006 10:42 AM

GL = Good Luck

kismetchimera Mar 5th, 2006 11:38 AM

I never knew that PITA meant that!! Thanks ira...:)

surfmom Mar 5th, 2006 12:27 PM

TIA - thanks in advance

YMMV - your mileage may vary (usually said if sharing an opinion that isn't shared by all. A nice way to say, that its my opinion and I get that others may not agree and that's ok!)

TTFN - Ta Ta For Now (usually said by a Tigger fan!)

FOMCL - Fell off my chair laughing

FWIW - For What Its Worth

OTOH - On the Other Hand

Marianna Mar 5th, 2006 12:35 PM

I didn't know PITA meant that either! FOMCLOL!

TamaraEden Mar 5th, 2006 12:42 PM

WOW! (not an acronymn) this post is popular :) I know the basic IM (instant message) acronymns and abbreviations. I just discovered that on Fodors there were more.

some to add to the list:

ROFLMAO (rolling on the floor laughing my ass off)
IDK(I don't know)
TTYL (talk to you later)
BBS (be back soon)
BBL (be back later)

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

TTFN

FWIW - for what it's worth

OMG - oh my gosh, goodness or whatever else fits the "g" slot

wink-wink - see Barb's report on Italy

For some people the acronym "DH" is an abbreviation of DUUUUUUUUHHHHH.

thanhrph Mar 5th, 2006 01:10 PM

lol ...I thought it is lots of love. I guess I've learnt something new here

Beatchick Mar 5th, 2006 01:17 PM

My daughter thought LOL was lots of love, too, and was disappointed to find out it was Laughing Out Loud.

Ira, I never saw PITA! :) Thanks for that one.
