Trying to recreate a memory in Bordeaux

We will be in Bordeaux for two days in early August. I am trying to retrace our steps from several years ago to a wonderful place in the center of the city that was like a wine school where we had some wonderful tastings of wine. We then went to a charming shop that sold pate that was nearby. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Or... do you have suggestions for wine tasting and pate shops in Bordeaux?

By any chance will you be on a cruise then?

StCirq Jul 13th, 2018 01:40 AM

There is an Ecole du Vin in Bordeaux: https://www.bordeaux.com/wschool/fr/ecoleduvin

The p té is more problematic. You can't swing a cat in this part of France without encountering p té.

Why oh why can't this site support an a with a circonflex?

kerouac Jul 14th, 2018 08:39 AM

Because they are a bit stupid and ethnocentric, StCirq.

janisj Jul 14th, 2018 09:31 AM

a à â á ä ã å ā

Christina Jul 14th, 2018 11:59 AM

as in p té ?

MaineGG Jul 14th, 2018 12:50 PM

Curious to see if my shows up here? Using Windows 10 US International keyboard.

MaineGG Jul 14th, 2018 12:52 PM

Well, I guess not. I typed an a with a circumflex accent.
Now will try é and è and à to see what happens.

MaineGG Jul 14th, 2018 12:53 PM

That seemed to go well. How about ô?

MaineGG Jul 14th, 2018 12:54 PM

Seems to be a definite problem with circumflex and the letter a.

MaineGG Jul 14th, 2018 12:55 PM

JanisJ - What system are you using? All your accented letters look good.

janisj Jul 14th, 2018 03:05 PM

mac/ios -

hold down any letter that has circonflexe/symbols and you get all the options.

e è é ê ë ē ė ę

u û ü ú ū

i î ï ī į ì

y ÿ

o ô ö ò ó œ ø ō õ

etc . . .

I am using the same system, janis, and use diacriticals all the time, including ê, ô, î...but the has never worked. OH, but now it does - someone must have fixed it.

>>OH, but now it does - someone must have fixed it.<<

Its always worked for me - ever since I learned how maybe 10-ish years ago.

TDudette Jul 15th, 2018 07:16 AM

janisj, glad it works for you but StCirq knows her way around a keyboard and French. Some sort of glitch, StC. Glad it came back.

Hope you find those special places, Airedaleamiga!

What has never worked? Not sure what you refer to.

StCirq Jul 16th, 2018 02:55 AM

The â never worked for me until yesterday. All other letters with the circumflex worked fine. Not that you'd want to, but you could go back and see plenty of posts of mine where I tried to write, e.g., château or pâté, and it came out ch ateau or p té.

Anyway, doesn't matter now. I reported it to the moderators a couple of weeks ago and I think they must have fixed it. Why it always worked for janisj, I have no idea.
