Thanks for the feedback, bakerstreet, glad it worked out for you. Who cares if you looked goofy, at least you got some sleep. If only someone would design a drool cup... :-)

I appreciate hearing your report, bakerstreet. Thanks!

How was your trip?

Thanks for checking in with us. I've seen the 1st Class Sleeper advertised in magazines. I just knew you didn't wrap yourself up in it, like you said in the OP (haha)!

I think it is called 1st-class sleeper for a reason: You need the legroom that only first class provides to have this thing behind your back and still not knock your knees into the seatback in front of you. Forget this in a regular economy seat, or even in the economy-plus as on United. See the photo? How much space between seats?

So this could work in first class on an airline that doesn't already have a way more comfortable sleeping solution for you.

DW bought a couple of these a few years ago. She loves it, me, not so much. Other than not finding it particularly comfortable, it moves me further forward in the seat. That makes the seat in front of me more intrusive when it is reclined. The reaction is to increase the recline of my seat to make up the difference, something I do not like to do out of consideration for the the person behind (but that is a whole other thread). Thus the choice is physical vs. mental discomfort. Footroom that is lost in less pitch is made up some because you are sitting a bit higher.

Thanks bakerstreet. Since I can never sleep on Transatlantic flights, I am going to try it on the next one (Tracy can unbuckle my seat belt and push me over into the aisle if she needs to get to the bathroom).

Now all I need is that drool cup!

Just got back from a trip to Paris on which we flew coach, as the front of the plane was full for the dates we needed to travel. I used something that sounds like an approximation - pillow in the small of my back and an inflatable neck cushion - and must say I slept better than I have previously when traveling coach.

Have one of those "first class sleepers" and they don't work...they are cumbersome to drag around before/after the flight, and they just 'boost' you up a bit...but didn't add much to our comfort when we have flown coach.
