Trying to arrange car service from Positano to Rome- help please!

Hi. I'm a New Yorker who's getting married in just over a week and then going on my honeymoon to Italy. We booked all our hotels and flights on our own (mostly with help from this board!), but haven't had time or help with planning how to get from Positano to Rome on the last leg of our trip. It sounded like a real pain to take the train, since we'd have to take buses first, so we're thinking about car service. Does anyone know of any reputable companies in the area and approximately how much we should pay? Thanks so much in advance...jacqui

Ask your hotel, but a car to the Naples train station will be at least $100. All the way to Rome might be $300. I would take the bus or ferry to Salerno and train from there.

Hi Jacquiro,

We did this trip two years ago and were quoted about $250 for Positano- Rome. I have to rave about the drivers we had. They are Giancarlo and Giovanni Gargiulo, based in Sorrento, and they can be reached at: [email protected], or on their cellphones at: (Giovanni-dad)3387306575; (Giancarlo-son): 3335226029.
We will be using them again this summer from FCO in Rome to Sorrento. I found out about them here on the forum, and they are delightful, charming, and hysterically funny. Both speak excellent English ( dad was a cruise waiter here in the States for 29 years) and drive air-conditioned Mercedes. You couldn't be in better hands. I have sent many friends their way, and everybody has always said that these guys were one of the highlights of their trip.
Have a great time, and congratulations!

Going the other direction we took the high speed train from Rome to Naples. Our hotel in Positano (Sirenuse) arranged to have a driver pick us up at $100. Our hotel rate in Sorrento (Excelsior Vittorio) included transfer via taxi back to Naples airport where we flew back to LAX from. While we were on the coast for 10 days we relied on a combination of taxis, ferries, and the circumvesuviana (local train serving the bay of Naples). More than anything we walked. All of the above was easy, painless, and all together cheaper than renting a car (counting rental, gasoline, and parking). In any event, most hotels will help you with transportation arrangements if not actually make them for you. Have you already inquired with your hotel?
