Try this if you are having trouble posting

I have been having trouble posting a new message and sometimes replying. The site does not seem to want to load. I am using a PC and we have a pop-up stopper enabled. Here is what I have figured out: hold down the ctrl key while you click on post and the site will work. Don't ask me why because I am not a computer geek, but this works for me. By the way, i never had this problem before this new registration and configuration.

Well that sounds better than what I've been doing, which is to just keep clicking on "post my reply" at 2 to 10 second intervals until it finally posts, sometimes after as many as 35 clicks.
But I just tried what you suggest here, and sure enough when holding down the control key and clicking post, it immediately disappeared so I thought it had posted. But it didn't, instead I just lost my message and had to retype this. Will try it again. Maybe I realeased the control key too quickly after hitting "post my reply".

Nope, that didn't work on my computer. But I was able to post the previous message by only clicking "post my reply" a total of 14 times. I have learned that if it doesn't post in about 15 seconds, the screen clears and my message is lost. And hitting back will only bring back an empty "post a reply" window.

Just trying to see if anything has changed.

I routinely make a copy of my post before sending it. It is easy.
Hold the left mouse button, drag the cursor over the message, and the message should be highlighted. Then click on the right button, and a drop down box should give you a few choices that include "copy". (Paste and delete are two of the other choices.)You can copy it to a wordpad or notepad file, or just hang on to it in the desktop.

If Fodors decided to ditch your post, you can recapture what you said with a paste command in a new post a reply window.

I am not surprised that Fodors did not test this new version of Travel Talk before it was released to the public.
They tried a previous revision that had to be aborted because it knocked the whole system down.
I must be blessed, because my reply posted first try without having to resort to anything devious.

I guess they had to burn the village to save it, huh?

I've had no trouble with this site until yesterday. Since then I've had to hit "post my reply" several times too. Since life is too short to sit in front of a non-moving computer screen, I've learned to copy each post before trying to post it. I'll do something else for a few minutes and then come back to try to post again. Sometimes it'll post on the first try. The take-home message is to copy your posts! Hope they're working on this feverishly at HQ.

For anything longer than this response I always type my answer into Word. Then I can copy from there to this little box as much as I have to. I get to have it spell/grammar checked too.

It's been hit and miss to post replies since the registration began.

Is that the answer? Short messages post and long ones do not? bear with me here.

Message: I have been having trouble posting a new message and sometimes replying. Nope. That is not the answer since the long copy posted first time.

Maybe the authentication software cannot handle traffic over a certain volume.

Since I am a left coaster, I tend to post after what is probably peak times on the east coast.

lynlor Feb 2nd, 2003 04:40 PM

Just giving the system a try to see if it works.

lynlor Feb 2nd, 2003 04:42 PM

It worked instantly...I am using an iMac....Maybe that is the secret.

John Feb 2nd, 2003 05:44 PM

Let's see if this post immediately

John Feb 2nd, 2003 05:44 PM

YUP, it did

andy Feb 2nd, 2003 11:12 PM

Ok Julie- Now help - I hit the Control tab and Voila'==ALL my types became ENLARGED! LOL

How do I get it BACK down to normal size????

HELP!!

Kavey Feb 2nd, 2003 11:29 PM

If you have a wheel on your mouse hold the CTRL key whilst moving the wheel - one direction enlarges and the other reduces the size of text. It's like using the View, Text Size command in IE.

kazzawary Feb 2nd, 2003 11:35 PM

sometimes it (posting) works for me and sometimes it doesn't - holding the control key down seems to make it work more often!!! thanks
:)
Patrick Feb 3rd, 2003 05:15 AM

Oh, my God, after trying all the above suggestions with mixed success -- sometimes working sometimes not -- I've found the answer!!!

After you type in your response, but before you hit "post my reply", take a deep breath. With your hand on the mouse, do a hand stand at a 285 degree angle to your computer. As you breathe out slowly, click the mouse on "post my reply" three times. Quickly sit back upright. If it hasn't posted already, there is still time. Stand up on your left leg (I tried the right leg, but it just didn't work as well). Hop up and down seven times and click the mouse as your foot hits the floor each time. On the seventh click the post should take.

This method hasn't failed me yet.
