Please, please, please...I don't where, some country please take him and keep him!

Trump said he thought the EU was great a few days ago. Well maybe not great, but it had a lot of "love", "beautiful things", etc.
Gut feeling is he has no idea what the EU or British Commonwealth actually do or stand for so good luck with that UK. |
“I love the < insert something here > — nobody loves it more than me.”
|
We would only join the Commonwealth if the Queen were removed as head and some American appointed to that position by Trump.
|
P, pretty soon the Queen will be removed, no one knows who gets it

>>The Commonwealth Society is a charity and PR arm of Great Britain<<
Not even that. It may get some government funding and certainly tries to tie in the great and the good to its various cross-Commonwealth projects and activities, but it isn't an official government body: that's the British Council's job (for the UK government). Though I don't doubt the Foreign Office thinks it would be a good idea for bodies like the RCS to try to tap into US contacts and networks, in the light of current government policy (such as it is) and the presumed loss of EU funding to the UK for all sorts of cultural and social projects. |
>>and only needs to pay £80 for citizenship ceremony.<<
If I were the UK, I'd be sure to get the money upfront. |
It is possible Trump would want to join the Commonwealth, if he knew what the Commonwealth was.
|
I'd imagine it would sound suspiciously socialistic to him.
|
>>and only needs to pay £80 for citizenship ceremony.<<
Which he'd have to share with a whole load of other people (some of them in headscarves!), and possibly Cllr. Buggins, whose turn it is to serve as mayor at the time, or just the local registrar. It isn't that grand. |
For extra £150 or so, he can opt for private ceremony!

Trump alleged to be "keen" for US to join Commonwealth
Posted by: flanneruk on Feb 24, 17 at 7:48am The Times got it wrong again. Actually it is England which wants to join the USA. |
< Actually it is England which wants to join the USA. >
"England" or UK? In the former case it would mean the equivalent of the population of California and New York joining the USA - roughly 85 Congresscreatures and, depending on how "England" is split, several Senators, in the latter it's the population of California and Texas - 95 Congresscreatures and at least 8 Senators. Now given that 90% of UK folk are left wing of Clinton... |
P, pretty soon the Queen will be removed, no one knows who gets it>
sounds like a palace coup or coup d'etat? Or did you mean when she dies? no one knows who gets it? Charles ain't heir apparent with emphasis on apparent? He would have to voluntarily remove himself- the way you say it sounds like a free for all. |
Massachusetts is officially called a Commonwealth, so Trump might think a foreign power lingers over the NY border.
|
"Now given that 90% of UK folk are left wing of Clinton..."
I don't think that the vast majority of the UK understand who Clinton is, let alone her politics. |
It is England which wants to join USA. Scotland wants to Uquit and join France.

"P, pretty soon the Queen will be removed, no one knows who gets it"
To explain. The King or Queen of the UK is just that, the PRESENT Queen of the UK happens to be Head of the Commonwealth. Our Liz has a bunch of titles and not all of them follow the same "line". Since she is the only person who has ever been the Head, no one knows who gets the role when she resigns or dies. Charles, as Prince of Wales is the heir apparent to the British Throne. Just in case their is any confusion, the new King or Gueen declares him or herself King or Queen, then everyone gets together to hold a party and do the crowning thing (see Johnny English II for the facts). Charles has been lobbying for the Commonwealth gig, but it will depend on stuff... Wike covers it pretty well. The Commonwealth Society is something completely different. Wiki also covers that I see. I once asked someone high up in the Commonwealth why we had it. He said "it is useful for peoples to get together to discuss the world who don't need the jokes explaining to them". This rather drops the "Plump" out of the running, don't you think? |
>>He said "it is useful for peoples to get together to discuss the world who don't need the jokes explaining to them".<<
Margaret Thatcher needed just about every joke explaining. And I can't help wondering if Steven Harper was exactly a barrel of laughs. There must also have been quite a crash course for Mozambique and Rwanda when they joined. |
How about a British CommonwealthExit for the U.K.?
Leaving a British Commonwealth sans Britain? Seriously what good does Commonwealth membership bring -easier to emigrate- trade boons or just queen's head on stamps? |
