Truffle Season?
Doing a reatively spur of the moment trip and trying to decide whether or not to visit Piedmonte. Will truffle season be over in mid-November? It makes a difference, as I am looking at either flying in to Milan and out of Rome, or RT Rome.
Grazie! |
It will scarcely have begun by mid-november. For the best advice, you really should post your question on Chowhound's Italy board. There is more than one poster who either lives there full time or spends months there, and both are very knowledgeable about truffles. You should specify just when your travel dates would be.

Just so you know, it's either Piemonte (Italian) or Piedmont (English).
|
Well, San Miniato and Acqualagna both hold truffle fairs in November, so I think not. I think truffle season lasts at least a couple of autumn months, at least for white truffles.
|
Thank you! I will investigate Chowhound, I've never visited that web site.
Love truffles! |
This makes me want to cry. I haven't had fresh truffle in so long! Enjoy yours, Dayle.

OK, so now there is a new opportunity for a home exchange to Rome in January!! Whohoo!
Is Villa Sampiguita open in the winter? From their web page it looks like they close during winter. Bob? |
The guy who runs Villa Sampaguita posts regularly on Chowhound under the name of Sampaguita. You could also just send him an e-mail.

There's info on truffles and truffle fairs in Tuscany here: http://www.san-miniato.com/

Thanks for that link constant. I'll bookmark for future reference!
