True single hotel rooms - Paris
 

Is it possible to start a new thread dealing strictly with single Paris hotel rooms, and I really don't mean "one person in a double room." Unless that could somehow be cheaper than staying in a true single??

Does anyone know how common true single rooms are (I know I could check each hotel's website individually but...) -- do most hotels have true single rooms or are they a rarity?

Like everyone else, I'd like "location, quality and low price" so of course something has to give there and I guess it'd be price. My ideal would be Latin Quarter for @ €125.

Very few rooms in Paris have two beds. Likewise, the price quoted is for the room, not per person.

Hotel St. André des Arts on street of the same name in the 6th is a one starred hotel that still has "true" singles at affordable rate that includes breakfast.

It's been a few years since we rented one (for our adult son who was traveling with us) so you'd need to check, but since their double is 99euros or so, the single will certainly fit your budget. We really like the neighborhood and the hotel can best be described as quirky with its small winding stairs, antique church pew in the entryway and odd shaped rooms with wood beams (poutres apparentes). No elevator. No a/c. Plenty of atmosphere. Beware, singles are more the size of a French dorm room from days of yore=small, but our son loved it.

The single room concept does not really exist in Paris.

If you want to pay less, don't obsess about the Latin Quarter and choose instead a very nice room in the outer arrondissements for 50-70€.

Thank you Michel, I guess then my question should be if anyone could recommend hotels offering rooms with "one single (twin) bed?"

I think I have stayed in one at Hotel des Marronniers on rue Jacob, also.

if you go to Expidia and look for a room for one person, you will find some hotels do have them
They are cheaper but the size is ridiculous.
Even when traveling alone, I book a double room.

Many of the smaller hotels have single rooms. You will typically get a very tiny room - often not much bigger than a twin size bed, dresser and small chair. the price should definitely be less than a double room - if you don;t mind being squashed.

I had a nice true single. . .like a small ship cabin. . .at Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche.

The Grand Hotels des Balcons in the 5th has single rooms. I enjoyed one in 2008 for E85 a night.

RainyDay09, I think you mean "Hostel", not Hotel. The Hotel le Regent is a 3 star on rue Dauphine.

The Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the Marais has at least one single room (and very nice it is too!).

I've also stayed in two different single rooms at the Hotel Lyon Mulhouse, just up from the Bastille.

Both these are budget hotels, under 75 euros last October.

The Hotel le Sevigne - http://www.le-sevigne.com/ang_accueil.htm - also in the Marais, has some single rooms for 70 euros. They are not especially small, and the hotel is just steps from the St. Paul metro with nice views down the Rue de Rivoli.

What difference does it make if it's a "true single" or not, if your main criteria is price? I routinely stay in small doubles (whether they ever allow two people in them, I couldn't say) when I book a single rate that cost less than some single rooms in more expensive areas, so the main point should be the price. I prefer to get more space by not staying in the more expensive hotels. Many many hotels show rates for single rooms, they aren't hard to find.

Of course you can pay less for a double room in some hotels versus a true single in more expensive hotels.

Here is a hotel I've stayed at in the Latin Qtr which has true singles, but they are still a bit more than 125 euro in peak season http://www.trianon-rive-gauche.com/ That's just across bd St Michel in St Germain, so not the cheapest real estate, but if you look at the Latin Qtr near the Seine, it won't be too different in that regard. That's a 3* hotel, though, you can easily find cheaper, single room or not.

I have stayed in a room in London in which I could touch both walls while standing in the middle. I have stayed in a room in San Francisco that was only inches larger. I join Christina in wondering why anyone would want to. Where do you put the suitcase?

"Where do you put the suitcase?" Under the bed? Personally, I prefer to sleep cheap so I can eat well. After all, in somewhere like Paris I won't be in the room aside from showering ad sleeping.
