But it has been announced - it's in all the newspapers that he's arriving at Stansted, but probably transferring into London in a helicopter to avoid the traffic.

I was at Prestwick last time Bush came for one of these jamborees. The security was ludicrous - for days before the entire perimeter had a polis every 50 yards, (forces from all over the UK) every blade of grass was interrogated, normal life ceased for miles around.
The day he arrived (in 2 wide bodied jets) the air was thick with attack helicopters ("nobody make any sudden movements"). He left in marine 1 (another chopper) in a cloud of helicopter gunships.
If you think the bill for policing the demos is big just try to find out how much we are paying to protect the head septic.

Pretty much of a non-event for me. I had a peaceful afternoon in the British Library and Russell Square. I did see some signs about roads being closed to traffic around the Strand. Then I came through Trafalgar Square around 5:30 - three TV vans, a small group of possible protesters. Lots of flags. BTW, anyone know what the orange and green Union Jack type flag near the London Eye signifies? I had a peaceful afternoon in the British Library and Russell Square.

I didn't get further than tottenham Ct Rd. Load of bollocks the lot of it.

As mentioned in my trip report, the much touted protests failed to do much to interrupt daily life for either residents or tourists like myself. Kudos the local authorities for their work to make it so and huzzas to the media for stirring the pot.
