trouble booking rail tickets online

I've been trying to book tickets from London to York using nationalexpresseastcoast.com, and the order will not go through. Perhaps because of the snow in the UK today, the National Rail website is overburdened and won't let me advance with my order. Has anyone else had trouble with ordering through National Express? I enter everything and then it says there's a problem with my credit card. My credit card company says no attempt has even been made to charge the card. It seems like a glitch with the site more than anything else.

Is there another way to book tickets, other than through these two sites? Thanks.

Try this site:

www.thetrainline.co.uk

It's the site we use for booking train travel at work and seems to be quite good.

Good luck!

all the train info web sites seemed to have crashed today due to the loads put on them by the snow. Looks like it will be gone by Wednesday so either wait till then or queue on a working one

www.thetrainline.co.uk

And pay extra for tickets, pay for using a credit card whereas NXEC ill give a discount for it's tickets on it's trains and doesn't charge for cc use

I had the same problem last year and finally called them. Turned out that there was something that I had failed to do before it would go through. Did you register on their site first? I can't remember exactly what it was but it was some silly little thing that I had not done. Look over the "order form" again and make sure you have clicked all the appropriate boxes.

nationalrail.co.uk is the site I always used when I was living over there, but thetrainline is good for cheap advance fares. Also a lot of times I would just buy tickets at the station, a lot of times the person helping me would suggest cheaper routes or give me discounts I didn't know were available.
