Trogir to Plitvice Drive Time / Trogir Accommodations
 

I've read a lot recently about how Plitvice shouldn't be missed on a Croatia trip, and I would love to be able to work it into my itinerary there in late September. The question I have is how long it might take to drive from Trogir to Plitvice. I unfortunately have only one day to go from Trogir to Plitvice and back, and if it's over 5 hours, I may not do it (and even if it's less). Still, the thought of seeing the park in fall foliage is tough to get away from. I've read a post somewhere that mentioned lots of traffic on the new toll road due to closed tunnels, but if anyone has a rough estimate of the drive time, I would appreciate your sharing it.

Also, any recommendations for good sobe or small inn accommodations in Trogir would be great too. Thanks!

I was the one who mentioned the traffic back up because of the tunnels. We stopped at Krka National Park on the way to Plitvice so it took us all day. The toll road is excellent and I don't know if there is always such a back up. We waited for 1 1/2 hours to merge to go through the longest tunnel. It was a nightmare. So many people were driving cars from Poland, Hungary and the CR. It was Saturday so we think they were returning home. The traffic coming from the north didn't cause any back up for the tunnel.

I think it would be a rather long day. We spent 4 hours in the park, which I think in minimum. You can go to www.viamichelin.com and see what it tells you!

That would be a VERY long day for you! Plitvice is beautiful but you may want to save it for another trip back to Croatia. It is such a beautiful country!

In Trogir I recommend either Villa Siika or Apartment Bakica. We had hoped to stay at the VS but they were full so they recommended the Bakica. We were so happy with our accomodations at Apartment Bakica!

We saw the rooms at Villa Siika and they are very nice as well. Trogir is a great little (tiny) island!

In Trogir we loved the tiny Villa Sv. Petar -- right in the middle of the village on a narrow alley. Wonderful brother/sister team of owner managers, very accommodating. The room we stayed in was small (room for a bed, wardrobe, desk, and a small walking-around space) with a nicely appointed little bathroom (shower only). Exposed stone wall behind the bed. To give you an idea....

According to my Lonely Planet by <i>bus</i> it is 3hrs from Plitvice to Zadar and another 3.50hrs from Zadar to Split (and Trogir is 20 mins northwest of Split).

I second the recommendations for Vila Sikaa, we loved it, very nice staff.

Also too long of a day for you, take inthe lakes when you have time, as we will on another trip.

My wife and I are looking for Trogir accomodations next month and would like to know what web site to go to to book them, esp. the apparently highly recommended Villa Siika, which turned up nothing when I did a Google search.

Also, any tips for travelling with a 15 month old in Croatia? We're planning on carrying her in a backpack and ditching the stroller.

Re your stay in Trogir--would highly
recommend Hotel Concordia. We have stayed at Villa Siika and it was not in the old town. They rent motorcycles at
the entrance. It is extremely noisy and
not an attractive neighborhood. The Hotel Concordia is in a charming area
with cobblestone alleys nearby and overlooks the bay with a pedestrian walk in front. Their breakfast is excellent. Their rates are cheaper than
the Villa (which is not a villa)
