Trip to Tuscany

My husband and I are planning a trip to Tuscany soon and currently have reservations to stay in Pisa. The plan is to take day trips and see the surrounding areas. However, I am having second thoughts about exactly which city to stay in and if we decide to stay in Pisa what hotel should we consider??? We stayed in Florence a couple of years ago and thought this time it would be nice to stay somewhere different.

What time of year are you going? How long is your total trip? Will you have a car? Where ele have you been in Italy? What other cities have you looked into that interests you? What is your hotel budget per night?

I don't know what is pulling you toward Pisa but on the same route is Lucca which I think is a better small town to stay in and just as convenient for a variety of day trips.

Please do a search here on Tuscan towns before you finalize your plans to stay in Pisa. There are several great towns to stay in.

We are actually going in a couple of weeks. Our first stop will be in Sardania (going on business) for 3 nights. We were there 2 years ago - if you haven't been, it is beautiful! Anyway, we also visited Florence, Venice and Rome on that trip. We were on the go a great deal of the time; thus the reason for a more relaxed, enjoyable trip this time!
The plan is to have a "home" base, rent a car and take day trips. I had thought about Lucca and after reading the comments, I will do additional research.
Thanks for the input and please continue!

I would stay out of Pisa...tourist, tourists, tourists...I agree with the poster....look into Lucca, a great Tuscan town to venture out of...

>Pisa. The plan is to take day trips and see the surrounding areas.<

The 'plan' is not a good one because there are no attractive day trips (other than Lucca) from Pisa.

For a 'trip to Tuscany', you must find a more centralized location within the heart of Tuscany. That, IMO, would be Siena or its environs.

Tuck is right---Pisa is not a good loaction. Get a place close to Siena or south of Siena. Look at www.palazzodelcapitano.com
