I will trip to Munich in Germany on 3/5-3/12,this is my first time to Germany, could anyone suggest the attraction, dining(Beer and German Pork Knuckle),shopping outlet in Munich or in the neighbor city to me.

I'll offer a few restaurant alternatives featuring hearty german fare:

--Donisl, on Marienplatz. Many pork dishes, good beer, oompa band atmosphere, great prices

--Hackerhaus on Sendlinger strasse--awesome food, huge selection (try the Obazter appetiser), excellent beers and terrific apple strudel.

--Andechser am Dom--near the Frauenkirche, behind Marienplatz. their schnitzel is the best we've ever eaten, many other pork dishes, terrific beers.

I also recommed Donisl, its a great beer hall with delicious pretzels, pro dishes and BEER!. If you pick up a few books on Munich you should have no problem finding decent restaurants. The city isn't that big and everything thats good is in the center.

How do you feel about smoke-filled restaurants? Be prepared (unfortunately).

Both Donisl and Andechser were rather smoky, but not horribly so. Hackerhaus was not, but I don't recall if they had a nonsmoking area or we were lucky. Smoke is a common problem across Europe, though, not just German restaurants.

Smoking isn't a problem in Italy....

Go during off peak hours or early to avoid the smoke stacks.
