Trip To England & Scotland in Sept.
 

We are traveling from Atlanta to London. Staying there 4 days, train to York for 2 days and then to New Castle for 8 days with friends. They are taking us to Scotland for 3-4 days. Know most of our itinerary for London and some for York. Any ideas of other stops in between London and York and Newcastle. Hotels not booked, still reading all the notes. Open to any suggestions. Trip still in planning stages. Flying out of Amsterdam for return trip home. Suggestions for hotel for one night there and quick tour of area around airport. Thanks for any info. <BR>Pam

Durham is worth visiting if you're traveling by train from York to Newcastle. You can easily see the Old Town and Cathedral in a couple hours, walking from the train station.

Hi, <BR> <BR>I'm from Atlanta too! We just got back from 2 weeks in Great Britain. I highly recommend the Four Seasons Hotel in York. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful B&B, bountiful breakfast, nice owners, quiet location, and flat walk into the city. There was a British couple staying there that liked this B&B so much that this was their fourth time staying there. <BR> <BR>Also, in Edinburgh we really liked the Castle View Guest House. Great location right off Princes Street on Castle Street. The B&B is on the 4th and 5th floor of a building with no lift so if stairs are a problem this wouldn't be the place for you. Our room on the 5th floor provided us with a view of Edinburgh Castle from our bay window. Lovely, clean room, good breakfast, helpful owners, and quiet. <BR> <BR>Good luck.

You can easily spend a nice afternoon or a short day in Lincoln. The old town, at the top of the hill, is fabulous. A great cathedral (look for the Lincoln Imp--hard to find but a sense of accomplishment and a bit of glee if you do) and castle. Also, steep hill, between the castle and the cathedral, a small road that is so steep you can't ride an ordinary bicycle down it. There are also some wonderful gates in this area of town. Highly recommend it.
